QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya (February 14, 2026)—A 33‑year‑old tricycle driver, identified only as alias Ernie has turned himself in to police after investigators linked him to the brutal killing of a 19‑year‑old Nueva Vizcaya State University student.

The victim’s body was found charred in Barangay (village) Madiangat, Quezon on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

According to the Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office (NVPPO), the victim’s burned remains were found early Thursday morning, prompting an immediate case conference led by NVPPO Director Paul Bometivo.

The meeting brought together investigators from the Quezon Police Station and the Provincial Intelligence Unit to review closed-circuit television or CCTV footage, conduct follow‑up inquiries, and build a solid case file.

Initially, Ernie, a resident of Maddiangat village, was named a “person of interest.”

However, mounting evidence and pressure from the ongoing investigation forced him to surrender on February 13, 2026.

He admitted to the crime and is now in the custody of the Quezon Police Station, where he will undergo documentation and further questioning.

In a related operation, the NVPPO executed Search Warrant 010‑2026 at Ernie’s residence, seizing a black vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the offense.

Forensic teams are currently examining the vehicle and other collected items for trace evidence that could corroborate the suspect’s confession.

“This development shows that relentless investigative work and community cooperation can bring swift justice,” Bometivo said. “We will continue to pursue every lead and ensure that all evidence is thoroughly analyzed.”
