BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya—A government-run university in this province has reminded students to be “cautious in your advocacy activities,” warning them against “improper activism.”

This was the message of Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) President Wilfredo Dumale Jr. during the recently held Kamustahan 2026, reminding students to be more cautious and responsible in their advocacy efforts and to prioritize their studies and well-being.

Dumale said that student activism is acceptable as long as it is done properly and does not harm anyone.

“Be an advocate for good causes, not to harm others,” Dumale said, urging students to instead “focus on your studies and support government programs.”

He also warned students to be careful with conferences and online events, as some may lead to indoctrination.

Dumale’s warning also comes amid concerns that intelligence agencies are monitoring universities, including NVSU, due to improper student activism.

University officials were also urged to scrutinize events and speakers to ensure that they align with the institution’s values and goals.

Highlighting the importance of responsible advocacy and the need for students to be mindful of their actions, Dumale said, “We encourage our students to be active and engaged, but we also remind them to do so responsibly and respectfully.”

Other matters discussed during the Kamustahan 2026 event included the institutional accreditation on February 23 and 26-27, and the upcoming Cagayan Valley Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges Meet 2026.
