NPA rebel surrenders after almost 4 decades

BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya (April 26)—After nearly 40 years of service in the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA), a senior rebel leader in Cagayan province has decided to surrender to the government.

From the town of Allacapan, NPA commander Rogel Edillo brought with him his 12-gauge shotgun to the Cagayan province police office (CPPO) in Tuguegarao City to surrender urging his former comrades to follow suit.

The CPPO report shows that following the 1986 Edsa People 1 Revolution, Edillo joined the communist NPA in 2015 and lived as an ordinary citizen but continued to give support to the movement.

Edillo said he has had countless encounters with military and police troops in separate areas in Cagayan province as well as on the government side.

“I could no longer continue giving my support due to many unpleasant things happening in the movement, that is why I decided to surrender,” Edillo said.

Police said Edillo is undergoing debriefing and tactical interrogation at Camp Tirso H. Gador in Tuguegarao City since he surrendered on Sunday. LCD
