Agri trade town in Region 2 records first Covid positive case

BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya (August 8)—This agricultural terminal town in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) has recorded its first coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-9) positive case.

Dr. Edwin Galapon, Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Integrated Health Office chief, said the asymptomatic patient CV 422 is a 30 years old female from Barangay Homestead here.

Galapon said the patient gave birth to a twin baby girl through caesarian section on Wednesday and on the same day she underwent swab testing which came out positive for Covid-19.

This town is where the Nueva Vizcaya Agriculture Terminal (NVAT) is based It continues to supply tons of fruits and vegetables to the National Capital Region and neighboring regions in Luzon even during lockdowns.

Recently, the town was featured in a national television how it managed to remain without recorded Covid-19 positive cases since the outbreak claiming it was through the help of “tsismosa” (gossipers) who would immediately report Covid suspects to their respective barangay officials and frontliners.

The patient is among the 20 new Covid-19 positive cases in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) confirmed by the Department of Health bringing the total number of recorded cases regionwide to 421 as of August 7.

Cagayan Valley comprises the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Quirino, Cagayan and Batanes. The provinces of Quirino and Batanes remained without no recorded Covid-19 positive cases.
