TUGUEGARAO CITY (November 17)—Residents of insurgency-cleared villages in Santo Niño, Cagayan have graduated from three courses offered by the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (Tesda).
A total of 66 students received their certificates after completion of their courses which lasted from three days to 27 days of training on November 9, 2022 during the conduct of Livelihood Training for the insurgency-cleared barangays of Abariongan Uneg and Calassitan.
These barangays are part of the 17 barangays in said town which are beneficiaries of the Support to Barangay Development Program for the year 2022.
The activity was graced by Mayor Vicente Pagurayan with members of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of the National Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) which included the Philippine National Police, Department of Education, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Labor and Employment.
According to the 17 Infantry “Do or Die” Battalion (17th IB) of the Philippine Army’s 5th Infantry Division, a total of 20 trainees from Barangay Abariongan Uneg in Santo Niño town completed the Beauty Care Services National Certificate 2. This training started on September 12 and lasted for 27 days.
Led by Lt. Col. Oliver Logan, the 17th IB said another 18 trainees from Barangay Calassitan of the same town completed Body Wellness Massage which started on September 20 and lasted for 15 days.
With completed assessment at Aparri Polytechnic Institute with the support of the 17th IB were 28 students who finished the three-day training of Theoretical Driving Course from October 19 to 21, 2022, Logan said.
“The troops of 17th IB will continue to secure and assist the developments that will sustain the gains of our campaign against the communist terrorist group,” he said.
Logan also noted that his unit is continuously conducting the Modified Community Support Sustainment Program and security patrols in which the unit had recently recovered 22 firearms with the report of the concerned residents in the area.
Meanwhile, Josie Cabrera, Tesda-Cagayan supervising specialist, said “the livelihood training is part of the role of Tesda as the head agency in PRLEC of NTF-ELCAC which provides new opportunities to the residents of insurgency-cleared barangay.” LCD
