NVSU mourns tragic loss of tourism student

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — The Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) community is in deep mourning following the tragic and untimely death of Elyza Esmeralda, a 2nd-year Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management student from the College of Human Ecology.

Elyza, who was reported missing on February 11, 2026, was later confirmed by authorities to have suffered a violent death. Her passing has left her family, friends, classmates, mentors, and the entire university community in profound grief and shock.

In an official statement released on its Facebook page, NVSU expressed its sorrow and called for compassion, unity, and respect as the investigation into her death continues.

“It is with profound sorrow that Nueva Vizcaya State University mourns the tragic passing of Elyza R. Esmeralda,” the statement read. “Her loss has deeply shaken the entire University community, leaving her family, friends, classmates, and mentors in unimaginable grief.”

The university also appealed to the public to refrain from speculation and from sharing unverified information on social media, emphasizing the importance of allowing authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.

“Let us allow the proper authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry while we uphold responsibility, sensitivity, and respect during this difficult time,” the statement added.

NVSU extended its sincerest condolences and prayers to Elyza’s bereaved family and loved ones, standing united in compassion and solidarity.

“As one University, we grieve together and stand united in compassion and solidarity,” the university said.

Elyza’s death has sparked an outpouring of sympathy from students, faculty, and staff, with many taking to social media to express their condolences and share memories of her bright spirit and dedication to her studies.

A candlelight vigil and prayer service are being planned on campus to honor her memory and offer support to those affected by this tragedy.
