Engineer Sancho Mabborang, DoST Region 2 director, said during the virtual awarding earlier this month that CSU has been an active partner of the DoST by producing various science and technology innovations.

The DoST-funded project titled “Production & Utilization of ‘BamCoal’ Bamboo-based Fertilizer and Evaluation of its Plant-Soil-Nutrient Profile, Photosynthetic and Growth Effects, and Salinity-Stress Alleviation in Lowland Variety of Head Lettuce” gets a funding of P1.1 million for the CSU Gonzaga Campus.

Another project titled “Capability Building, Livelihood Development and Environmental Protection for Climate Change Vulnerable Coastal Communities in Buguey, Cagayan Amid the Pandemic,” already in its phase 4, gets a funding of P883,472 for the CSU Gonzaga Campus.

The third project titled “Cafe Valena through Stride (Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Development program): Science and Technology on Coffee Production toward Community Development and Resiliency” gets a funding of P970,000 for the CSU Lal-lo Campus.

Expressing his appreciation to CSU, Mabborang noted that this year, the university will be receiving more cash and equipment grants from DoST totaling almost P100 million in support of its Electromobility Program, Metals Engineering and Innovation Center and Food Innovation Center.

“Rest assured that Cagayan State University will always be part of the levels of development the Department of Science and Technology will pursue,” Mabborang added.

He said he looks forward to fusing research and development (R&D) among campuses and agencies challenging them to sell not only physical products but also intellectual properties.

Dr. Urduja Alvarado, CSU president, said, “[The DoST has] enabled the smaller but competent and creative campuses to harness their potentials in research and development allowing significant contribution to science and technology,” Alvarado said.

She guaranteed a more vibrant R&D at CSU as she challenged chief executive officers Froilan Pacris of Gonzaga Campus and Florante Victor Balatico of Lal-lo Campus in these new endeavors of the university.
