Ifugao university books feature rich cultural heritage

BY LEANDER C. DOMINGO

FEATURING Ifugao’s rich cultural heritage, the Ifugao State University (IFSU) has published two books after years of extensive research, according to IFSU President Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon.

The first book titled “Inabol: Ifugao Traditional and Contemporary Textiles @2020” is a coffee table book that documents the hand-woven textiles of Ifugao.

The second book was titled “the Ifugao Indigenous Knowledge, Systems and Practices (IKSP) @ 2021,” a textbook on various Ifugao IKSPs.

Codamon-Dugyon, who wrote the preface of the books, said the contents of the books were contributed by various Ifugao scholars, academicians, indigenous knowledge holders and practitioners led by IFSU Professor Serafin Ngohayon.

Former Senator Loren Legarda, who wrote the foreword, has provided the funding for the research and subsequent publication of these books.

Ngohayon said the books are a valuable addition to the supplementary teaching and learning materials of IFSU in its IKSP subject and the IP Education program of the Department of Education.

“Through these books, we hope to foster a better understanding and encourage preservation and promotion of these indigenous knowledge, systems and practices developed over centuries and millennia,” he said.

Copies of the books are available at IFSU libraries and at its production cost from the IFSU Career Development Center, IFSU Potia Campus with email address sngohayon@yahoo.com.
