Ifugao State U gets P9.8-M for Muscovy duck breeding project

LAGAWE (April 29)—An Ifugao university is rolling out its more than P9.8 million research and development project on duck breeding that was approved by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (DoST-PCAARRD).

The research and development project titled “Development of Philippine Signature Muscovy Duck Breed” of Ifugao State University (IFSU) aims to boost the production of said duck breed.

Dr. Elpidio Basilio Jr., IFSU Research and Development director and serves as project leader, said their research project aims to specifically develop breeding and selection protocol, develop sustainable breeding, production and distribution systems.

The project includes the establishment of phenotypic and genotypic characteristics, evaluate production performance and sensory characteristics of products, he added.

Basilio said the project was formalized under a memorandum of agreement to be implemented for four years which initially started on April 1, 2021 and will end on March 31, 2025.

With a separate budget allocation from the DoST-PCAARRD, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and IFSU will take the lead in the implementation of project activities and coordinate with other collaborating agencies and exert all efforts which include providing facilities and technical personnel.

IFSU President Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon has expressed her gratitude to the DoST and lauded the IFSU research and development team and the BAI for successfully clinching said project.
