ECHAGUE, Isabela (Agust 25)—In carrying out its internationalization program, the Isabela State University in Isabela province is forging a new cross-border linkage with the Academy of Learning Career College (AOLCC) on the West Coast Campus in Vancouver, Canada.

According to ISU-Public Relations and External Linkages (ISU-PREL) office, it hosted a virtual meeting on August 13, to discuss the formation of an alliance with the AOLCC.

During the meeting, AOLCC presented a primer on their institution and more importantly, its proposed student mobility program such as Credit Transfer for the ISU Alumni and English Language Improvement.

Peter Bordo, AOLCC Students Affairs and Marketing director, said these can be acquired through online or in-campus settings, Canadian Workplace Integration Program, 3+1 Scheme, and Job Assistance Guarantee.

Bordo also emphasized that AOLCC has done away with the use of the traditional way of teaching and that all the instructions, directions, quizzes, activities and projects and final exams are already included in the system called Integrated Learning System (ILS).

Posted on its website academyoflearning.com, AOLCC which was founded as a franchise system in 1987 originally specialized in computer and business skills training for adult learners, based on ILS.

AOLCC said the ILS system which is exclusive to the college is unique to Canada and offers a method of learning whereby course materials and instruction provide an all-encompassing learning experience using multi-sensory learning styles and preferences through student workbooks, media presentations, and hands-on exercises.

Also during the meeting, the ILS system was introduced as a learning style supported by an on-site qualified campus facilitator that gives the students the flexibility to learn through self-direction.

ISU-PREL director Dr. Isagani Angeles Jr. noted that many ISU graduates have shown interest in healthcare services or healthcare management programs.

Angeles said this led ISU and AOLCC to formulate a tailored program after a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing, a BS in Hospitality Management and Tourism Management, including a BS in Information Technology and BS in Computer Science courses.

He said his request for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) approved by ISU President Ricmar Aquino has been forwarded to AOLCC Marketing director.

Angeles also noted that the MOU will be the basis for coming up with a memorandum of agreement or MoA which will specify the different programs for collaboration between ISU and AOLCC.

Recently, the Bureau of Immigration has already accredited some of the 99 programs currently offered by ISU allowing the university to accept foreign students.
