SANTIAGO CITY: With the booming mining industry in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in Region 2 said miners and stakeholders will converge in a forum in this city on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, to showcase their responsible and sustainable mining operations in the region.
The Cagayan Valley region is host to at least four mining companies namely the Australian OceanaGold Didipio Mine, London-based FCF Minerals Corp., the Nickel Asia-operated Dinapigue Mining Corp (DMC), and the JDVC Resources Corp which is tagged as the first Philippine offshore mining company.
The announcement was made by MGB Region 2 Director Mario Ancheta during the culmination of the three-day Mine Exhibit in Tuguegarao City on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
On Friday, June 23, 2023, Ancheta opened the Mining Exhibit at Robinsons Place in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan province with each mining company establishing booths for visitors to learn more about the mining industry in the region.
“The mining exhibit which aims to show the best practices of mining companies in the Cagayan Valley region is important for the public to know what is happening so that the public’s misconceptions related to mining can be removed and corrected,” Ancheta said.Cagayan Valley comprises the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vuzcaya, Quirino and the island province of Batanes.
“These mining companies showcased their commitment to responsible mining practices and to create awareness about their company’s operations,” Ancheta said adding that their booths were filled with informative materials to educate the public about the companies and their various aspects of their operation.
