SEC teams up with Ilocos Norte IOs to strengthen investor education, financial literacy

LAOAG CITY (August 24, 2023)—The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has entered into a momentous Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Association of Ilocos Norte Information Officers Inc. (AINIO), solidifying their commitment to promote financial literacy. This strategic partnership aims to enhance the dissemination of vital information to the public, ultimately empowering individuals to make informed financial decisions. The signing ceremony took place in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on August 16, 2023.

Under the newly signed MO) signed by the SEC Baguio Extension Office Director lawyer Regina May Cajucom-De Guzman, and the AINIO President lawyer Charito Malicad, and Edmar Ines, AINIO treasurer, the SEC and the AINIO will engage in a range of activities aimed at raising awareness and understanding the basics of finance and avoidance of investment scams. These initiatives include organizing education and training programs, webinars, and public forums to disseminate relevant information on investment opportunities, personal finance management, and protection against fraudulent schemes. Additionally, the collaboration will involve the development of informative materials, such as brochures, pamphlets, and online resources, to effectively reach a wider audience and ensure accessibility to essential financial knowledge.

The SEC, as the country’s primary regulatory agency for securities and investments, brings its expertise and experience in ensuring a fair and transparent financial market. With its core mandate of investor protection, the SEC plays a crucial role in safeguarding the interests of the investing public. Through this partnership, the SEC aims to further strengthen its initiatives and expand its reach to communities, specifically targeting the residents of Ilocos Norte.
