QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya (September 1)—In a move to turn trash into cash income, Barangay Runruno villagers in this town have undergone training on eco bricks making using shredded plastic waste from the community.
A very important program for the community, Barangay Captain John Babliing said their villagers were recently trained on eco-bricks from plastic waste materials collected.
“Our trained villagers will help intensify their Innovative Runruno Integrate Sustainable Earn from Waste Program (IRISE) of our barangay local government unit to generate income and reduce solid waste in the community,” Babliing said.
In partnership with the FCF Minerals Corporation, the IRISE Project was funded under the company’s 2022 Social Development and Management Program (SDMP).
Enterprise development and networking and human resource and institution building are major activities of SDMP in achieving a sustainable community, according to FCF Minerals.
Babliing said the villagers will bring in more cash to the barangay for significant and important projects while creating job opportunities to the residents of Runruno.
This endeavor is also in support of the barangay ordinance in the implementation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2003, he added.
The eco brick training was conducted by Diadi’s Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office headed by Engineer Ronaldo Dumondon.
