P8-M nipa plantation pushed for bioethanol production

DOMINGO SANTA ANA, Cagayan (August 10)—The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 2 and the Cagayan State University (CSU) have awarded P400,000 in financial assistance to fisherfolk in the coastal town of Santa Ana. The amount was part of CSU’s P8-million project to establish some 50 hectares for a new nipa plantation for bioethanol production. BY OLIVER T. BACCAY TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (August 6)—The Department of Health (DOH) here confirmed 26 cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), today, all from the province of Isabela. DOH Regional Director Rio Magpantay said five of the cases are from the City of Ilagan, followed by four cases each in Tumauini and Cauayan City, two cases each in Angadanan, Cabatuan, Cordon, Echague and San Mariano while Cabagan, Gamu and Jones towns also have one case each. He said that of the 26 cases, 14 are males and 12 are females, including an 8-month-old baby. DOH Regional Director Rio Magpantay said eight of the cases are from Cagayan, six from Isabela and one from Nueva Vizcaya. These include CV 357 who is a 54-year-old male from this city who doesn't have any travel history and exposure to any positive case. Cagayan hospital opens lab for covid testing

KAHULUGAN TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (August 4)—The Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) here on Monday inaugurated its molecular laboratory for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) testing that will augment and expand the testing capacity of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila. Dr. Glenn Matthew Baggao, CVMC chief, said the hospital’s Covid testing center has a newly constructed building with three Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) machines for its operation. Llexter Guzman, DOH Region 2 health education and promotions officer, said the newly tested individuals are both locally stranded individuals who were tested in NCR before they traveled home to their respective towns in the province.
