THE VALLEY JOURNAL SANTA ANA, Cagayan (August 5)—Some 75 Chinese nationals and three Filipinos were arrested by the authorities Tuesday night at the Cagayan Special Economic Zone in Santa Ana, Cagayan, nearly 700 kilometers north of Manila. The arrests were made by the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA), in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Region 2, who cracked down on illegal online gaming operations inside the Cagayan Special Economic Zone and Freeport. DOH confirms 15 new Covid-19 cases

BACCAY TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (August 5)—The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 2 has confirmed 15 additional cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the Cagayan Valley region. DOH Regional Director Rio Magpantay said eight of the cases are from Cagayan, six from Isabela and one from Nueva Vizcaya. These include CV 357 who is a 54-year-old male from this city who doesn't have any travel history and exposure to any positive case. He is an employee of DOH-Region 2 and now at the quarantine facility of the said regional office. Cagayan hospital opens lab for covid testing

KAHULUGAN TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (August 4)—The Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) here on Monday inaugurated its molecular laboratory for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) testing that will augment and expand the testing capacity of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila. Dr. Glenn Matthew Baggao, CVMC chief, said the hospital’s Covid testing center has a newly constructed building with three Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) machines for its operation. Llexter Guzman, DOH Region 2 health education and promotions officer, said the newly tested individuals are both locally stranded individuals who were tested in NCR before they traveled home to their respective towns in the province. The first of the cases is a 26-year-old male from Abulug town. He experienced colds and loss of sense of taste since July 15. Bamboo growing is being promoted by various government agencies to also help address environmental issues.
