BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (August 19)—At least 38 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and Children In Conflict with the Law (CICL) here recently finished their studies inside the provincial jail.

Provincial Jail Warden Carmelo Andrada said 18 of the PDLs received their Junior High School certificates of completion while the 20 others are enrolled in  Senior High School (SHS), taking up TVL-Electrical Installation and Maintenance for School Year 2022-2023.

The PDLs completed their studies through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) offered inside the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Jail (NVPJ), a partnership program with the Department of Education (DepEd).

Andrada said the ALS-SHS in the province, is a pilot ALS course offered by the DepEd in the region.

“The ALS indeed has become a fruitful journey of PDLs in completing their education even behind bars and also serves as a concrete evidence that deprivation of freedom is not a hindrance to stopping oneself from growth and development,” he said.

Andrada said the Moving Up and Senior High School launching ceremonies for the ALS completers with the theme: “Gradweyt ng K-12. Masigasig sa mga pangarap at matatag sa mga pagsubok” was held at the NVPJ Multipurpose Hall on August 18, 2022.

The activity was attended by DepEd officials headed by Dr. Rachel Llana, Schools Division superintendent and Board Member Patricio Dumlao Jr., among others. PIA
