Scholarship for medical students pushed

DOMINGO BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (November 24)—To help poor but deserving students to take up expensive medical courses, a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) here has proposed a localized version of the Republic Act 11509, also known as "Doktor Para sa Bayan Act." Board Member Elma Pinao-an Lejao said this will address the demand for medical doctors in the province by extending financial help to deserving students in the pursuit of their education and training in health and medicine. She said the proposed ordinance establishing the "Medical Scholarship and Return Service Program for Deserving Students" shall also be known as the "Nueva Vizcaya Doktor Para sa Mamamayan Ordinance." NVizcaya govt scholarship program produces more graduates

It all started with five scholars each from the 15 municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya in 2018 and came up with 69 successful college graduates this year under the Nueva Vizcaya Sagut Scholarship Program which now draws 300 scholars each year taking up various courses at the Nueva Vizcaya State University. According to Governor Carlos Padilla (middle in orange shirt), the scholarship was conceived with the purpose to help poor but deserving students, particularly children of solo parents, displaced overseas Filipino workers rebel returnees, persons with disabilities and orphaned, among others. Trucks collide, 2 drivers dead NVizcaya

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (November 17)—An Elf truck driver died Thursday, Nov. 17, when he was thrown from his vehicle after being hit by a trailer truck in Diadi town, Nueva Vizcaya province. Lieutenant George Dayag, Diadi deputy police chief, identified the fatality as Gerald Morales, based in Tumauini town in Isabela province. An initial investigation showed that the brake of the trailer truck driven by Danilo Lopez malfunctioned as it was negotiating a curve, leading to the collision with Morales’ vehicle. The police said the trailer truck also hit a passenger bus. Lopez surrendered to the authorities and will face a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
