QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya (February 2)—In a move to support the solid waste management (SWM) program here, FCF Minerals Corporation has allotted P500,000 for facilities and equipment for the barangay local government unit of Runruno in this town.
John Babli-ing, Runruno village chief, said he received the funds for facilities and equipment to boost their SWM program to reduce, reuse and recycle, all for the mining village to cut down on the amount of waste the community throws away.
“With the funds, we received from the mining company, we were able to acquire plastic shredder, mortar mixer and hollow block machine to improve our solid waste management program in the village,” Babli-ing said.
He said these facilities and equipment were funded through the mandated Social Development and Management Program of the FCF Minerals Corporation in partnership with the Barangay Runruno local government unit.
FCF operates the national government-sanctioned Runruno gold-molybdenum project under the financial and technical assistance agreement issued to the company as a license to operate.
“We can now improve the processing of our various wastes into productive products that will provide income to our barangay and generate jobs for our villagers,” Babli-ing said.
He said there is a growing population in the village and thus the amount of various wastes by every household in the community is also increasing and that the upgrading of their SWM processing is timely.
“We consider this development in Runruno as a major step in our campaign for a clean and green community amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic,” Babli-ing said.
He said that responsible and proper management of solid waste in the village will have the effect of preventing the spread of the dreaded Covid-19 disease.
