DoST in Region 2 launches innovation enablers

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (August 28)—The Department of Science and Technology (DoST) in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) launched Thursday its new project dubbed as Einstein 1K or Engaging Innovation by Nurturing Significance of Thousand Excellent Ideas in the North live via DoST-Region 2 Facebook page Live Stream.

Engr. Sancho Mabborang, DoST Region 2 director, said Einstein 1K is set to raise the stand of the Cagayan Valley region in terms of contributed inventions, utility model, industrial design and trademark.

He said this new project aims to register 1,000 patents, which include Utility Model, Industrial Design, Copyright and Trademark; enthuse researchers and inventors to become Career Scientist Applicants; institutionalize a reward system for approved Intellectual Property policies and create spin-off companies by mainstreaming of Industry 4.0 and Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (Setup 2.0).

Mabborang said this new project is not just only to put the picture of Region 2 in the innovation arena but also to create a sustainable synergy among the project-partners in nurturing the research and development ecosystem in the countryside.

In his message, he noted that the Philippines ranks 54th in the 2019 Global Innovation Index, it jumped from its previous place at 73rd in 2018.
