QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya (March 2)—With assistance coming from a British firm, Barangay Runruno here continues to earn income from a hollow block-making project using collected waste materials.

According to FCF Minerals Corporation, the hollow block-making project is part of the Innovative-Runruno Integrate Sustainable Earn(I-RISE)-Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) of the community.

John Babliing, Runruno village chief, said they were able to produce 29,119 pieces of hollow blocks since the I-RISE-SWMP started in their community through the help of the FCF Minerals Corporation.

“We were receiving a lot of hollow block orders from the community. We also donate them to poor villages that need them for their infrastructure projects,” Babliing said.

He said the income from the hollow block-making project will be used for their development projects in Runruno village.

“An ordinance is in progress and we expect that this will be enacted to make it official that the income derived from our hollow blocks making project will be put to a trust fund for our development projects,” Babliing said.

He said their solid waste recycling program is now being rolled out through the purchase of a high-speed sewing machine for the production of pillows, using shredded plastic waste as fillers.

“We expect that these solid waste management projects will benefit our villagers once it will be in full swing,” Babliing added.
