DOMINGO ISABELA (June 11)—Marking the celebration of Philippine Environment Month, around 2,500 volunteers in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) planted some 13,266 propagules of bamboo on June 8, 2022. According to Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 2 office, the propagules that were planted in 40 planting sites totaling 54 hectares (ha) included bayog, kawayan tinik, kawayan kiling, machiku and golden bamboo. CAUAYAN CITY (May 16)—A new People’s Army (NPA) rebel surrendered to government authorities here, police said on Saturday.  The surrenderer was identified as alias Kikoy, 32, a Cauayan City resident. He was a former member of the NPA's Central Front Reynaldo Piñon Command under a certain Gerome from 2010 to 2014.  Police said Kikoy also surrendered an improvised 12-gauge shotgun marked "RMF" without a serial number and loaded with two live ammunition.  The voluntary surrender of Kikoy was a result of an intensified implementation of the project Sustaining the Advocacy to Grind Insurgency in the Province or Sagip of the Isabela police provincial office in collaboration with the Philippine Army and Philippine Air Force.
