Councilor dies as SUV falls from bridge

DOMINGO SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya (June 11)—A municipal councilor was killed after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) he was driving fell from a bridge in the upland town of Kasibu in this province on Friday morning, June 10. The Kasibu Municipal Police Station identified the fatality as engineer Alfredo "Samo" Tucpi 2nd, 49, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan in Kasibu and a resident of Barangay Poblacion in the said town. Based on the initial police investigation, the victim was on his way home when his Toyota Fortuner bearing registered plate UNQ 901 accidentally fell from a bridge in Barangay Bua in Kasibu around 12:30 a.m. According to the police report, the victim's vehicle fell and turned turtle when it landed in the river, which caused water to enter the SUV. ...

DENR awards 1,500 land titles in Region 2

DOMINGO BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (June 11)—The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 2 awarded more than 1,500 land titles to qualified recipients in the Cagayan Valley region. Gwendolyn Bambalan, DENR Region 2 director, said the majority of the land titles were already distributed to various stakeholders in Cagayan Valley in celebration of the country's Environment Month and the agency's 35th founding anniversary. She said the land title distribution is being held under the Handog Titulo program of the DENR under the leadership of acting secretary Jim Sampulna.
