‘Exempt frontliners from taxes’

DOMINGO BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya (August 15)—A bill has been filed in Congress seeking to exempt from taxation all medical and non-medical frontliners as relief for putting themselves at risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infection. Its author, Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Luisa Lloren Cuaresma (Lone District), said once approved, House Bill 7351, which shall be known as “Handog sa mga Bayaning Lumalaban Kontra Covid-19 Act,” will exempt health care workers and various frontliners from paying taxes for the taxable year 2020. Cagayan Valley Covid cases jump to 510

DOMINGO BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya (August 13)—Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) surged above 500 on Wednesday, with the addition of 15 new cases, according to the Department of Health (DoH). The DoH said the new case brings the Cagayan Valley region’s total Covid-19 recorded cases to 510, none of which is recorded as new cases for the National Capital Region. According to the Health Department, of the 15 new cases, 14 are from Isabela province and one from Cagayan province in addition to the 66 cases recorded on Tuesday, the highest number confirmed in one day. Runruno Barangay Captain John Babliing said the "Gulayan sa Minahan" Project of the company is already showing concrete results, citing initial report of the mining firm. "Based on their report, they were able to harvest 50 kilos of assorted vegetables, two months after its planting," he said. Glen Miguel, DPWH 2nd District engineer, said the construction of Santa Fe River Flood Control Structures along Villaflores Section in Santa Fe town is now at more than 88.95 percent accomplished while the other project at Barangay Calitlitan in Aritao is already more than 85.36 percent done.
